Statutory text
Bare law
The Registrar shall on application furnish to any person, on payment of such fee as may be prescribed, a copy, certified under his hand, of any entry or portion thereof in the Register of Firms.
Central rule and applicability
On application and payment of the prescribed fee, the Registrar shall furnish any person a copy, certified under the Registrar's hand, of an entry or a portion of an entry. Section 68 explains the evidential use of a certified firm entry.
Limits and related provisions
The central wording concerns register entries or portions of them; it does not by itself promise a certified copy of every original document in the file. Current State provisions and the official procedure determine any electronic certification and other document-copy services. Certification is not a guarantee of the firm's solvency or every statement made in a business transaction.
Hypothetical business example
Hypothetical: a firm preparing for a contract dispute requests a certified entry showing its registration and recorded partners. It identifies the exact entry and pays the prescribed fee instead of relying solely on an informal search printout.
Practical decision flow
Specify the firm's register identity and the entry or portion required for the intended purpose.
Apply to the competent Registrar and pay the applicable fee using the official process.
Check the certification and contents received, then assess their evidential use under Section 68.
Check the applicable state law
This guide explains the central Section 67 baseline. State amendments, notifications and rules can affect its application. Confirm the law applicable to the firm's location and the relevant partnership agreement before acting.
