Statutory text

Bare law

The Central Government shall cause to be placed before both Houses of Parliament once a year a report respecting the execution of this Act by or under the Controller.

Rule and business relevance

The Central Government must cause a report respecting execution of the Act by or under the Controller to be placed before both Houses once a year. Such reports can help businesses understand administration, activity and trends.

Limits and related provisions

An annual report is not proof of a particular design's current validity, registration or renewal status. Nor does Section 45 substitute for a proprietor's own filing and term-maintenance obligations under other provisions.

Hypothetical business example

Hypothetical: a manufacturer uses an official annual report to understand registration activity, but searches the official design record and its own deadlines to confirm a specific registration's status.

Practical decision flow

Use the official annual report for administration-level information and note its reporting period.

For a particular design, obtain the individual register and proceeding records separately.

Keep proprietor-specific filing and extension deadlines independent of the annual reporting cycle.
