What is business bank account assistance?
A current account is a bank account designed for businesses, professionals, and entities that need to handle frequent transactions. Unlike a savings account, a current account has no limit on the number or value of transactions, making it essential for day-to-day business operations.
Opening a business bank account requires compliance with RBI's Know Your Customer (KYC) norms. The specific documents and process vary depending on the type of entity - Private Limited Company, LLP, partnership firm, or proprietorship. Banks also have their own internal requirements beyond the RBI minimum.
At Bizeneed, we prepare your documents, verify them against the bank's checklist, provide introductions to partner banks, and follow up until your account is activated.

फ़ायदे
Why get a separate business bank account?
Legal compliance
- RBI mandates a separate current account for business transactions - mixing personal and business accounts in a savings account is a violation(RBI Master Direction on KYC, 2016)
- Corporate entities (companies/LLPs) are legally required to have a dedicated bank account in the entity's name
- Tax audits and scrutiny notices often require separate business bank statements
Operational efficiency
- Unlimited transactions - current accounts have no upper limit on deposit or withdrawal amounts per day
- Overdraft facility - banks provide short-term credit to tide over cash flow gaps
- Multi-location banking - manage accounts across branches with centralized access
Business credibility
- Payment gateways (Razorpay, PayU, Stripe) require a business bank account for settlement
- Clients and vendors prefer transferring to a business account for invoicing and audit trails
- Loan and credit card applications require business bank statements as proof of turnover
Tax and accounting
- Clean bank statements make bookkeeping and GST filing much simpler
- Business expenses can be tracked separately for IT returns and audit purposes
- GST portal is linked to the bank account for auto-population of data in some cases
RBI KYC norms every business should know
- KYC is mandatory, not optional. RBI's Master Direction on Know Your Customer (KYC) norms, 2016, requires all banks to verify the identity and address of every account holder. Non-compliance can lead to account rejection or freezing. The four pillars are: Customer Identification, Customer Due Diligence, Risk Management, and Record Keeping.
- PAN is compulsory for current accounts. As per RBI guidelines, a valid PAN is mandatory for opening a current account. If you do not have a PAN, apply first through NSDL or UTIITSL before approaching the bank. Some banks may accept Form 60/61 temporarily but will require PAN within a stipulated period.
- GST registration strengthens your application. While not always mandatory, having a GST certificate significantly improves your chances of getting a current account approved, especially for trading and manufacturing businesses. Many banks ask for GSTIN during KYC verification.
- Minimum balance requirements vary by bank and city. RBI does not prescribe a minimum balance, but individual banks set their own. Metro cities typically require ₹10,000-₹1,00,000; tier-2/3 cities may require ₹5,000-₹25,000. Maintaining the minimum is critical - falling below it triggers penalty charges.
- Address proof must match the entity's registered address. The business address on your bank account must match the registered address on your incorporation certificate / partnership deed. If they differ, provide a NoC or address change proof. Banks often send a verification agent to the address.
अक्सर होने वाली गलतियाँ
Common mistakes when opening a business bank account
Using a savings account for business transactions
Open a proper current account from day one. RBI fines and account freezes are real risks. A current account costs nothing to maintain at most banks.
Submitting incomplete KYC documents
Banks reject applications for missing address proof or unclear photos. We review every document before submission to avoid rejections.
Not carrying original documents for verification
Banks require physical verification of originals. Keep your PAN, Aadhaar, incorporation certificate, and address proof handy for the bank visit.
Ignoring minimum balance requirements
Know the minimum balance for your chosen bank and city before signing up. Falling below it triggers monthly penalty charges that can add up.
Not updating the bank after address or authorized signatory changes
Any change in registered address or authorized signatory must be communicated to the bank within 30 days with supporting documents.

A current account is a bank account designed for businesses with frequent daily transactions. Key differences: no limit on number or value of transactions (savings accounts have limits), no interest earned, higher minimum balance requirements, and facilities like overdraft and multi-location banking. Savings accounts are designed for personal savings with interest, while current accounts are for business cash flow.
Technically you can receive payments in any account, but RBI guidelines and company law require businesses (especially Pvt Ltd and LLP) to maintain a separate current account in the entity's name. Using a personal savings account for business creates compliance issues during tax audits and can lead to account freezing.
Common documents: PAN card of the entity, Aadhaar and photos of all authorized signatories, registered office address proof (utility bill), NOC from property owner (if rented), rent agreement. For companies: COI, MOA, AOA, board resolution, and specimen signature. For proprietorships: Udyam/MSME registration, Shops Act certificate, GST registration.
RBI's Master Direction on KYC requires banks to verify identity and address of account holders through: (1) Customer Identification - verifying PAN, Aadhaar, incorporation certificate; (2) Customer Due Diligence - understanding the nature of business; (3) Risk Management - classifying customers by risk profile; (4) Record Keeping - maintaining KYC records for 5 years after account closure.
No, a GST certificate is not mandatory for all businesses. However, many banks request it for trading and manufacturing businesses. For service-based businesses and proprietorships, banks may accept Udyam/MSME registration and Shops & Establishments certificate instead. Having a GST certificate does strengthen your application.
Minimum balance requirements vary by bank and city category. Metro cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata): ₹10,000-₹1,00,000. Tier-2 cities: ₹5,000-₹50,000. Tier-3/4 cities: ₹5,000-₹10,000. Some banks like Kotak 811 and digital banks offer zero-balance current accounts with limited features.
Private sector banks (HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Kotak) typically activate within 3-5 working days after complete document submission. Public sector banks (SBI, Bank of Baroda) may take 10-15 days due to branch-level approvals. With Bizeneed assistance, we expedite by pre-verifying documents and coordinating with the bank's relationship manager.
Yes, many banks offer online current account opening: HDFC (Instant Account), ICICI (Edge Account), Axis (Insta Easy Current Account), and Kotak (Ace Current Account). However, online accounts typically have lower limits and may require in-person KYC completion for full-featured accounts. For companies with high transaction volumes, we recommend in-person account opening.
Yes, partnership firms can open a current account in the firm's name. Required documents: partnership deed, PAN of the firm and all partners, address proof, and authorization letter naming the authorized signatories. If the partnership is registered under the Partnership Act, the registration certificate is also needed.
Yes, proprietorships can open a current account. The account is typically opened in the proprietor's name with the business name as a suffix (e.g., 'Rahul Sharma Prop. XYZ Enterprises'). Required documents: proprietor's PAN and Aadhaar, Udyam/MSME registration certificate, Shops & Establishments registration, business address proof, and a declaration on the firm's letterhead.
An overdraft (OD) is a short-term credit facility that allows you to withdraw more money than your actual account balance, up to a pre-approved limit. It helps bridge temporary cash flow gaps. Banks typically offer OD limits ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh for current accounts, with interest charged only on the overdrawn amount. Eligibility depends on your account history, turnover, and relationship with the bank.
Yes, there is no restriction on having multiple current accounts across different banks. Many businesses maintain accounts with 2-3 banks for operational flexibility, credit facilities, and risk distribution. However, for GST compliance, you must declare all active bank accounts on the GST portal and update any changes within 30 days.
RBI requires banks to refresh KYC documents periodically: every 10 years for low-risk customers and every 2 years for medium/high-risk customers. If your documents expire and are not updated, the bank may place your account under a 'restricted' mode where you can only receive deposits but cannot withdraw. Renew KYC documents well before expiry to avoid disruption.
A current account is a basic deposit account for daily transactions with no interest earned. A cash credit (CC) account is a short-term loan facility where the bank provides a credit limit against collateral (stock, receivables, or property). CC accounts are for working capital needs and have interest charges. Most businesses start with a current account and upgrade to a CC account as their working capital needs grow.
Foreign companies operating in India through a liaison office, branch, or subsidiary must open a bank account in India. Foreign banks (HSBC, Standard Chartered, Citi) and Indian banks with international presence (SBI, ICICI, HDFC) handle these accounts. Requirements include: RBI approval, PAN, TAN, address proof, and authorized representative details. FEMA regulations govern the account operations.
