What is DIN Status Checking?
DIN (Director Identification Number) is a unique 8-digit identification number issued by the MCA to any person intending to become a director of a company. Checking DIN status involves verifying whether a DIN is active, deactivated, or pending, along with the director's personal details.
DIN status checking is important because: (1) Only directors with active DIN can be appointed as directors, (2) DIN KYC must be filed once every three years under rule 12A (from 31 March 2026), (3) Inactive DINs need to be reactivated before appointment, (4) Companies must verify DIN status of all directors before appointments.
The DIN status can be checked on the MCA portal using the DIN number. The status shows whether the DIN is 'Approved', 'Deactivated', or 'Lapsed', along with the director's personal information.

You can check your DIN status on the MCA portal by visiting 'View DIN/DPIN Details' under the 'Director' section. Enter your 8-digit DIN number to see your current status, personal details, and any remarks.
DIN KYC (Know Your Customer) is the filing that all DIN holders must make under rule 12A. From 31 March 2026 it is due once every three years instead of annually; DIN holders whose KYC is up to date are next due by 30 June 2028. It involves updating your personal details, address, and other information with the MCA. Non-filing of DIN KYC can result in DIN deactivation.
If DIN KYC is not filed by its due date, the DIN gets deactivated and marked as 'KYC Pending'. A deactivated DIN cannot be used for company appointments. You need to file KYC and pay a fee to reactivate the DIN.
