What is Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)?
A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is an electronic form of identification that validates the identity of the holder. It is the digital equivalent of physical or paper certificates like passports, driving licenses, or PAN cards. DSCs are issued by Certifying Authorities (CAs) licensed by the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) under the IT Act, 2000.
DSCs are used for signing electronic documents digitally. They ensure that the signed document is authentic, has not been tampered with, and the signer cannot deny having signed it (non-repudiation). DSCs contain the signer's identity, public key, and are signed by the issuing CA.
For businesses, DSCs are mandatory for MCA filings (SPICe+, DIR-3 KYC, AOC-4, MGT-7, etc.), GST registration and compliance, income tax e-filing, EPFO compliance, and various other government filings.
