The Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) it issues is what lets you claim export incentives, access APEDA's market development assistance, and clear customs without hurdles. We handle your APEDA account creation, document preparation, IEC linking, and RCMC application from start to finish, so your export shipments aren't held up by a paperwork gap.

What is APEDA registration and the RCMC certificate?

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) was set up under the APEDA Act, 1985 to promote and develop exports of scheduled agricultural and processed food products from India. APEDA registration is the process by which an exporter enrolls with the authority and receives a Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) - the document that formally recognises you as a registered exporter of a specific scheduled product category.

The RCMC is not optional paperwork for exporters of scheduled products - it is a statutory requirement. Without it, you cannot access APEDA's export promotion schemes, market development assistance, quality development support, or the infrastructure grants the authority offers. Many buyers and customs checkpoints also expect to see a valid RCMC as proof that your export is compliant.

Scheduled products broadly include fresh and processed fruits and vegetables, meat and meat products, poultry and dairy products, confectionery and biscuits, cereal and cereal products, honey, jaggery, and a range of other agricultural and processed food items notified under the Act. If your export falls into one of these categories, RCMC registration with APEDA applies to you regardless of your business size.

Eligibility

Who needs APEDA registration?

APEDA registration is tied to what you export, not your business structure - any entity shipping a scheduled product needs an RCMC.

  • You export any product falling under APEDA's scheduled list - fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, dairy, processed foods, cereals, confectionery, or similar agricultural products
  • You already hold (or are willing to obtain) a valid Import Export Code (IEC) from DGFT, since APEDA registration is linked to your IEC
  • You are a manufacturer-exporter, merchant-exporter, or trader intending to export scheduled products, regardless of entity type (Proprietorship, Partnership, LLP, or Company)
  • You want to access APEDA's financial assistance schemes for packaging, quality certification, or export infrastructure
  • You need RCMC as supporting documentation for buyer due diligence, letters of credit, or specific country import requirements
  • You are applying for or renewing recognition as a Star Export House and need RCMC as part of that documentation

Process

How APEDA registration works

APEDA registration is filed online through APEDA's registration portal once you have an IEC and GST registration in place.

1

Confirm IEC and GST are in place

APEDA registration requires a valid Import Export Code and GST registration. If you don't have an IEC yet, we handle that first - it typically takes a few working days.

2

Create your APEDA registration account

We set up your profile on APEDA's online registration system using your entity's PAN, IEC, and bank details.

3

Prepare and submit the RCMC application

We compile your documents, select the correct scheduled product category for your exports, and submit the application along with the prescribed registration fee.

4

Respond to any APEDA queries

If APEDA raises a clarification on your product category or documents, we respond on your behalf to avoid delays.

5

Receive your RCMC certificate

Once approved, you receive your Registration-cum-Membership Certificate, valid for 5 years, confirming your registration under your chosen product category.

You can apply for APEDA registration yourself directly on APEDA's portal - the government charges only a nominal registration fee. Our value is in getting the product category and documentation right the first time, since a mismatch between your IEC details, GST registration, and the product category you register under is the most common reason applications get stuck in query.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

APEDA registration is the process of enrolling with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority to receive a Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC), which is mandatory under the APEDA Act, 1985 for exporters of scheduled agricultural and processed food products.

Yes, if you export a product covered under APEDA's scheduled list - such as fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, dairy, cereals, or processed foods - registration and RCMC are mandatory before you can legally export that category.

RCMC stands for Registration-cum-Membership Certificate. It is issued by APEDA to confirm that your business is registered to export a specific scheduled product category, and it is required for accessing export incentives and, in many cases, for customs clearance.

Yes. A valid Import Export Code (IEC) from DGFT is a prerequisite for APEDA registration - the RCMC application is linked to your IEC details, so you need the IEC in hand first.

The RCMC is valid for 5 years from the date of issue. You need to apply for renewal before it expires to keep exporting scheduled products without interruption.

Typically 5-10 working days once your IEC, GST registration, and other documents are in order. Timelines can extend if APEDA raises a clarification query on the product category or documentation.

APEDA's schedule broadly covers fruits and vegetables and their products, meat and meat products, poultry and dairy products, confectionery, biscuits and bakery products, cereals and cereal products, honey, jaggery, and various other agricultural and processed food items notified under the APEDA Act. The exact classification for your product should be confirmed before filing.

APEDA charges a nominal statutory registration fee set by the authority, revised periodically. Our professional fee for handling document preparation and filing starts at ₹4,999, with bundled packages available if you also need an IEC.

Yes. APEDA registration is open to all entity types - Proprietorship, Partnership, LLP, and Private Limited or Public Limited companies - as long as the applicant holds a valid IEC and exports a scheduled product.

Exporting scheduled agricultural or processed food products without a valid RCMC can lead to customs and compliance issues, and you will be unable to access APEDA's export promotion schemes, financial assistance, or market development support.

Yes, a valid GST registration certificate is one of the standard documents required when applying for APEDA registration, alongside your IEC, PAN, and bank details.

Yes, APEDA registration can be filed directly on APEDA's online portal, and the government fee is nominal. Many exporters use a consultant to make sure the product category is classified correctly and the application isn't delayed by avoidable queries.

RCMC is commonly required as supporting documentation when applying for Star Export House recognition and other DGFT-linked export recognitions, though it is not the only requirement for that status.

APEDA registration (RCMC) certifies you as a registered exporter of a specific scheduled agricultural or food product category. ICEGATE registration is a separate portal registration with Indian Customs used to electronically file shipping bills and other customs documents. Many exporters need both.

You apply for renewal on APEDA's portal before your existing 5-year RCMC expires, submitting updated business and export details along with the nominal renewal fee. We track your renewal date and handle the filing if you use our service.

Both manufacturer-exporters and merchant-exporters or traders can register with APEDA and obtain an RCMC, as long as they hold a valid IEC and deal in a scheduled product category.
